Hi - I'm Alex

I’m an oenologist, viticulturist, and lifelong lover of wine.

My early career was spent selling and buying wine in the UK and Southeast Asia, before I retrained and learned how to make it. I've worked in numerous vineyards and wineries, and with countless producers. I've also helped run wine awards, and am both a wine writer - having for several years written and edited tasting notes and producer profiles for the world's leading wine magazine - as well as a voracious reader of anything and everything wine related.

It’s fair to say I’m a little wine obsessed – and now, through #WineObsessed, I get to share my love of wine with you – turning all those years of learning (and tasting!) into drinking experiences and insights worth staying in for.

Everyone loves to ask Alex's advice, taste his latest finds, and listen to him bring wine to life. Someone said, "I wish you could pick all my wines for me and tell me everything I should know about them," and the bud of an idea burst.

Coming into bloom

"You're Wine Obsessed!"

The name was inspired by Alex's two children as well as world-renowned plant physiologist Doctor Greg Dunn - former head of the wine department at Plumpton College - who once quipped that us budding winemakers studying at Plumpton were united by being "wine obsessed." It’s exactly this sentiment that Alex’s children regularly echo ("dad, you're wine obsessed!") and it felt like the perfect name for a wine company....

Pruning

Cutting the cr@p

Vines need to be pruned to focus their energy on what matters. We did the same - cutting away all the rubbish often associated with wine subscriptions. #WineObsessed is not about bargain bins or playing it safe. It's not stuffy, or full of flashy labels. You also won't find Alex bulking out boxes with filler bottles that maximise margins. He's trimmed that all away, leaving only bottles he loves to pour himself - you may not know them yet, but you'll be glad when you do and, whilst we may not be cheap, we pride ourselves on offering you great value.

We're not going to ask you to feel sorry for Alex - sampling the best wines from his favourite producers is a pretty fantastic job but at least he makes it easy for you to enjoy them too :)

Alex has a degree in winemaking/wine science (known as Oenology and Viticulture), as well as various WineSkills and Wine & Spirit Education Trust (Advanced & Diploma) distinctions and merits. He has spent almost 30 years in vineyards, cellars and tasting rooms, as well as several years writing and editing tasting notes and producer profiles for the world's leading wine magazine, and now he’s bottling that knowledge for you. Every case comes with postcards full of wine insights, pairing ideas and producer stories - making it easy for you to learn as you savour. He likes to ditch the stereotypes, keeps an open mind, seeks out quality and sustainability, enjoys elegant and refreshing wines from all over the world but also firmly supports local. For him, by far the most exciting development in the wine world during his career has been witnessing and involving himself in the ever increasing and exciting production of wine on these shores.
