A few kilometres from Saint-Tropez, Château Saint-Maur is one of only 18 estates in Provence awarded the prestigious Cru Classé designation, a status granted only to the historic, consistently high-quality domaines in Côtes de Provence.
Château Saint-Maur is known for producing some of the region’s most refined, terroir-driven rosés i.e. they look for their wines to have a sense of place, to express the unique characteristics of their vineyard sites. This is rosé winemaking of the highest level - while they do also make whites and reds.
The wine undergoes a short cold maceration with fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The result is a wonderfully refreshing, vibrant yet refined wine bursting with citrus notes alongside touches of red berries and salty minerality.
It's absolutely as you'd expect from a great Provence rosé but without the marketing guff. No whispering: Château Saint-Maur is all about the quality in the bottle.
The winemaker's tasting notes:
"An attractive, gleaming salmon pink. This wine charms immediately with its expressively fruity nose, bursting with peachy aromas. In the mouth it offers delicious notes of stone fruit, small red berries, and a subtle touch of grapefruit. An elegant, refreshing wine."
Food Pairing:
To quote Château Saint-Maur themselves, drink this with "herb marinated chicken skewers. Carpaccio of beef in vinaigrette. White fish ceviche. Grilled prawns with garlic and lemon. Provençal ratatouille. Grilled vegetable tart. Mediterranean olive and feta salad. Buffalo mozzarella with cherry tomatoes. Strawberry tart. Vanilla panna cotta with red fruit."
